The L Word

One of the most significant (and annoying) successes that conservatives can claim is making "liberal" an all-purpose dirty word in politics. It's now so ingrained in the vernacular that short hands such as the "L-word" are readily recognized as a way around the word that they dare not speak.

I think it's time to give the L-word a new meaning that resonates for conservatives. Liar.

No more cute little side steps like "misspoke" or monstrous ones like "inoperative." Let's be blunt and direct. L stands for Liar.

It describes Denny Hastert and the House Republican leadership.

It describes George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and the cast of characters who created weapons of mass destruction to send us off Iraq for a short, swift incursion where we we to be greeted with flower petals and where would seriously hamper the efforts of terrorism around the world.

It describe John McCain, often called a maverick Republican who stands up to the White House and offers a less kneee-jerk conservative viewpoint.

It describes Mitt Romney, who was for a woman's right to choose before he was against it.

It describes Kerry Healey, who says she is tough on crime, unlike Deval Patrick.

Frankly, the only Republican whose received prominent press play who seems to speak his mind these days is George Allen.

I report. You decide.
