RIP (Republicans in Pieces)

The Romney Revolution has come to this: 31,000 fewer Massachusetts Republicans than when he was elected four years ago. Another 1,000 dropouts since Kerry Healey won the nomination in September.

Among those abandoning the Grand Old Party? The Saltonstalls and the Lodges.

Those Theocons that Mitt is trying to sway with his appeals to evangelicals would probably say good riddance to the Mayflower brigade that has been the heart and soul of the Republican Party. The fact these are Healey's North Shore neighbors are only a passing trifle of trouble to the Mittser. They are so old money anyway.

With registration data like this I might be tempted to hope Romney could win the 2008 nomination. Projected nationally, he could wipe the party out.

Wouldn't that be loverly.
