Apparently Treasurer Tim wants us to think he's paying attention to his job after all.

Cahill is blasting a Deval Patrick veto of $20 million to finance long-term borrowing, calling it "budgetary sleight of hand." Patrick says he is looking to save the state by using short-term financing now and then do the long-term borrowing in 2011.

Cahill says with interest rates lower now, the move will cost the state more over time. Too arcane an argument for me, but I do know that Patrick needed to do something to close a $25 million hole in the budget when Cahill "forget" to tell lawmakers that his efforts to have Massachusetts join the Powerball lottery failed to materialize.

Nice to have you focus on your job, even for a little while Mr. Treasurer.
